The code assumes 512 byte (0x200) sectors, but this could easily be changed. The stuff dealing with blocks is because you can only write to the physical drives when you're sector aligned (and probably only full sectors), so it has to read the appropriate sectors, apply the changes, and then write them back out. The function "strtol" is used for number conversion, so standard rules apply (numbers with leading zeros are octal, leading "0x" are hex, otherwise decimal). This would change the partition type of the first partition to 0x80 (the offset of the next partition types are 0x1D2, 0x1E2, and 0x1F2).
